We Help Pirata and his Spanish Owners

Cruz Azul attended the recent ‘Encuentro de Asociaciones’ fair in Santiago de la Ribera and, as a result, were approached by a young Spanish couple who have recently become unemployed, receiving just 400 Euros a month from the Government. They have 3 dogs and a cat and are obviously finding it a struggle to live and care for their pets. One of their dogs, Pirata, was found by the couple two and a half years ago, when he was just six months old. He was injured and had had both ears cruelly amputated. Pirata’s new owners took care of him, nursing him back to health, and he has been a…

    Walk on the Bark Side

A cloudless, blue sky greeted owners and pooches on Sunday, 16 March, as people gathered to support Cruz Azul Murcia’s first major event of the year, a ‘Walk on the Bark Side’, at the Esplanada Barnuevo in Santiago de la Ribera. There were tall ones, small ones and in between ones, and that was just the dogs, who had brought their owners along for a nice stroll along the 3 Km route on the promenade. The tallest dog was Maddie, who came with her owner, Pam Clough, and the tiniest (and youngest) was 11 week old rescue puppy, Tomás, who brought along his mummy, Karen Rubio Vuckovic. The oldest pooch…

I thank each and every one of the volunteers for their hard work and dedication, with…

    Cruz Azul Murcia is Launched

Our new charity has been launched in the Murcia region, dedicated to promoting responsible pet ownership and providing veterinary care for the sick and injured pets of people who are finding it a struggle to care for them in these hard times. The charity will be run along similar lines to the UK’s Blue Cross and PDSA: the place where people on limited incomes can go, to apply for support for their pet. Cruz Azul Vice President and Centre Manager, Sue Thomason, says: “As far as we are aware, there is no other charity in Spain that offers the same kind of service. Starting in the Murcia Region with the…

    Red Tops Rock!

Staff at The Arches in Los Alcázares rose to the challenge last Thursday evening with a full house for The Red Tops’ performance. “This has to be the biggest audience that we’ve had so far” remarked owner, Ali Chaplin. “We had in excess of 230 people, with standing room only”. The Red Tops have proved a popular rock band, with a great following at venues around the Mar Menor area. Thursday night was no exception and they rocked the audience with their energetic and infectious style of playing, filling the dance floor in no time. One guest brought along his vintage Ford Galaxy to add a true retro flavour to…
